Tigris Region’s Chambers and Commodity Exchanges were at “Turkey’s Geographical Indications Cradle: Upper Mesopotamia International Symposium”. Pioneered by Tigris Development Agency DIKA), namely Chambers/Commodity Exchanges from Mardin, Batman, Siirt, Şırnak and numerous establishments contributed to the symposium held at Erdoba Elegance Hotel between October 6-7 2017. DIKA, Tigris Region’s Universities, Chambers of Trade and Industry, Commodity Exchanges, City/District Directorates of the Ministry of Food and Livestock, Chambers of Agriculture, GAP Directorate and various professional organizations and NGO’s came together.

The program consisted of two sessions. On one hand various presentations on geographical indication systems within the International Symposium, on the other hand a Local Products Fair took place.
At the International Symposium, countless local and foreign participants gave presentations. Another session that took place concurrently was the “Tigris Region Local Products Exhibition”. Numerous potentially geographically indicated products were introduced and advertized at the exhibition which was the common event of Mardin Chamber of Trade and Industry, Kızıltepe Comodity Exchange, Kızıltepe Chamber of Trade and Industry, Nusaybin Commodity Exchange, Nusaybin Chamber of Trade and Industry, Siirt Chamber of Trade and Industry, Şırnak Chamber of Trade and Industry and Cizre Chamber of Trade and Industry, Batman Chamber of Trade and Industry, Batman Commodity Exchange. In that respect, some of the products both exhibited and served were as follows:

In the program, a work entitled “TRC3 Region Local Agricultural and Food Products” were distributed as well, the content of which was prepared with intensive work of an extensive team by the collaboration of DIKA and the Chambers/Commodity Exchanges of Mardin City and Districts.
DIKA Secretary General Yılmaz Altındağ and DIKA Foreign Affairs and Funds Unit Director Murat Erçin as well as this program’s coordinator Murat Erçin declared the number of similar organizations which took place with the collaborations of many establishments should increase.
Mardin Chamber of Trade and Industry President of Board of Directors Mehmet Ali Tutaşı, who spoke on behalf of Tigris Region’s Chambers and Commodity Exchanges, stressed the importance of the program and said as Chambers/Commodity Exchanges they were ready to fulfill their responsibilities while performing duties alike.
The two-day program had countless visitors. The visitors who paid great attention both to the symposium and the exhibition, wished the continuity of many organizations alike and they appreciated the program which took place for the first time in Mardin.
TOBB/TEPAV Academic Consultants, who played an active role in the program’s coordination, said they were pleased with such multi-cooperated organizations as these. Academic Consultant Assist. Prof. Gökhan Karhan of Batman, Mardin City and Districts’ Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Academic Consultant Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Behzat Ekinci added the continuity of such programs in systematic period contributes greatly to the cities and the region. They also said they would like to add TOBB to the organization process and intend to organize more comprehensive programs.
